Here are the 21 top Ames-area high school sports performers for May 2-8

Ames won three events and placed third as a team at the CIML-Iowa girls track meet in Waukee and the Little Cyclone boys picked up one gold medal in placing sixth at Fort Dodge May 4.

Roland-Story swept the Heart of Iowa Conference track team championships May 5 in Story City. The Gilbert boys golf team rebounded from its first loss since 2019 by winning two meets, including the Gilbert Invitational Saturday at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

The Gilbert boys soccer team went 3-1 during the week and the Tiger girls snapped a four-game losing streak with a 10-0 win over Carroll May 3. The Nevada boys soccer team also earned three victories in four matches.

Ames boys soccer defeated Ottumwa (1-0) and Des Moines Roosevelt (2-1) to improve to 7-3 on the season. The Little Cyclone girls ended a four-game losing streak with a 10-0 win over Ottumwa on senior night May 6 to improve their record to 4-7.

Ames defeated Ankeny (9-2) and Southeast Polk (10-1) in boys tennis and the girls tennis team scored a 9-2 victory over Southeast Polk May 5 at Ames.

Here are the top Ames Tribune-area individual performers for the week:

Spencer Clatt

Spencer Clatt

Clatt helped the Gilbert boys golf team rebound from its first loss in over two years at the Solon Invitational May 3 with victories at the Webster City Invitational May 5 and the Gilbert Invitational on Saturday.

He won medalist at both the Webster City and Gilbert meets. He shot a 4-under-par 68 over 18 holes to take the Webster City Invitational title and a 69 at the Gilbert Invite.

Joey Currans

Currans also performed well at Webster City and Gilbert for the Tiger boys. He carded an even-par 72 at the Webster City meet to earn medalist runner-up. He was also runner-up at Gilbert, shooting another even-par round at 71.

Ellie Lynch

Lynch helped Ames win the 4x100-meter relay at the CIML-Iowa girls meet with a time of 49.38 seconds. She also was part of the Little Cyclones' runner-up distance medley team that clocked in at 4:22.28.

She also won the open 200 individually with a time of 25.73.

Cameron Moon

Moon was the 100 champion and part of the 4x100 for Ames at the CIML-Iowa girls meet. She crossed the finish line in the 100 at 12.92 seconds to just edge Mason City's Jada Williams and Waukee Northwest's Keira Alliss, who both finished in 12.96.

Nyadio Chan 

Chan placed second in the open 800 for Ames at the CIML-Iowa girls meet with a time of 2:28.49. She also helped Ames place fourth in both the 4x400 and sprint medley relays with respective times of 4:23.10 and 1:55.16.

Corey Phillips

Phillips won the discus for Ames at the CIML-Iowa boys track meet with a season-best throw of 182 feet, 2 inches. He beat Waukee Northwest's Lucas Morrison by 15 feet for the conference title.

Claire Truesdell

Claire Truesdell

The Roland-Story freshman won both the girls 1,500 and 3,000 events at the HOIC track meet. Truesdell completed the 1,500 in 5:34.66. She ran a 12:05.34 in the 3,000.

Lauryn Kilstofte

Kilstofte won the 800 and helped the Roland-Story girls place first in the 4x400 and both medley relays at the HOIC meet. She completed the 800 in 2:35.43. The Norse girls ran a 4:14.81 in the 4x400, a 1:51.93 in the sprint medley and a 4:30.68 in the distance medley.

Kamryn Lande

The Roland-Story freshman won the girls open 400 in 1:01.66 and took second in the 200 with a time of 26.72 at the HOIC meet. Lande also helped Roland-Story win the 4x400 and sprint medley relays.

Caeden DaSilva

DaSilva won the open 100, 200 and 400 events for the Nevada boys at the HOIC meet. He clocked in at 11.12 seconds in the 100, 22.16 in the 4x200 and 50.81 in the 400.

Nathan Limas

Limas took first in both the 1,600 and 3,200 for the Roland-Story boys at the HOIC meet.

He ran a 5:00.92 in the 1,600 to edge the 5:03.58 by Nevada's Carter Holland for first. Limas completed the 3,200 in 10:31.86 to easily beat the runner-up time of 11:05.12 by Nevada's Brian Rohde.

Will Bunn

Bunn helped the Roland-Story boys win the 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley relays at the HOIC meet. He also took first individually in the long jump.

Bunn helped Roland-Story win the 4x100 in 43.69, the 4x200 in 1:31 flat and the sprint medley in 1:37.05. He had a season-best jump of 21-8 in the long jump to easily beat the 20-2 distance by Greene County's Bryce Stalder for first.

Eli Thorson

Thorson was part of Roland-Story's winning 4x100 and 4x200 teams at the HOIC meet. He also placed second to DaSilva in both the 100 and 200 with respective times of 11.42 and 22.81 seconds.

Paityn Noe

Noe won the 3,000 and took second to defending Class 3A state champion Ainsley Erzen of Carlisle in the 1,500 for the Ballard girls at the Raccoon River Conference meet.

Noe dominated the 3,000, running a 10:12.62 to beat ADM Geneva Timmermann by nearly 40 seconds. Noe ran the 1,500 in 4:44.97 to come in just behind Erzen's winning time of 4:41.87.

Jonathan Stoker

Stoker took second in the boys 800 and helped Gilbert place third in the 4x800 at the RRC meet. He ran a time of 2:05.31 to come in just behind the 2:05.26 by ADM's Clay Gustafson in the 800. The Tiger 4x800 team clocked in at 8:48.61 to finish 8.63 seconds out of first place.

Alexis Houge

Houge won the girls 100 and 200 and placed second in the 400 for Collins-Maxwell at the Iowa Star Conference co-ed track meet. She won the 100 in 12.98 and the 200 in 27.49. She also anchored the Spartans to a win in the 4x100 with a time of 52.84 and took second in the open 400 with a 1:02.52 showing.

Tad Hatfield

Hatfield scored a hat-trick with three goals for the Gilbert boys soccer team in a 10-0 victory over Carroll May 3.

Eden Lohrbach

Lohrbach won medalist honors for the Gilbert girls golf team at the Winterset Invitational May 2 at the Lakeview Country Club in Winterset. She shot a 73 over 18 holes. She finished 7 strokes ahead of the rest of the field to help the Gilbert girls shoot a 335 as a team to beat Winterset by 60 strokes for the victory.

Edgar Cabrera

Cabrera scored three goals and handed out one assist for the Nevada boys soccer team in a 9-0 victory over Ballard May 2 at Huxley.

Jixiang Li

Jixiang Li and Derek Peng

The doubles team went 3-0 for the Ames boys tennis team in its victories over Ankeny May 3 (9-2) and Southeast Polk May 5 (10-1) and a 9-2 loss to Marshalltown on May 6.

Peng and Li defeated Ankeny's Mason Lyons and Dylan Victor in straight sets, 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (7-5). They downed Southeast Polk's Isaac Meyer and Kaden Townsend by scores of 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2 and Marshalltown's Kevin Strand and Jacob Thiessen by ultimate tiebreaker.

Peng and Li came back from a 6-2 loss to Strand and Thiessen in the first set with a 7-6 (7-5) win in the second. They won the ultimate tiebreaker by an 11-9 margin.
