DES MOINES — Roland-Story's Will Bunn made a name for himself in the boys’ long jump at the state co-ed track meet Thursday at Drake Stadium.

Bunn proved himself one of the best long jumpers in the state by placing third in Class 2A. He entered the meet seeded fifth, but moved up two spots after an outstanding jump of 21 feet, eight inches.

“I was pretty nervous going in because of the competition I was going against,” Bunn said. “Once I got there most of those nerves left and I just went out and jumped as best I could.”

Bunn’s peak jump came on his second attempt during prelims. He nearly got the mark again on two occasions in the finals, but fell just short on his fourth (21-5.5) and fifth (21-6) overall attempts.
