Turnovers hurt Royal boys in district loss to Spartans

GRUNDY CENTER – The Colo-NESCO boys’ basketball team couldn’t overcome turnover problems in a 54-20 loss to Grundy Center during the Class 1A district first round Feb. 15. 

The Royals committed 29 turnovers. They only got off 18 shots compared to 48 for Grundy Center in finishing the season with an 8-13 record. 

Lucas Frohwein had six points and six rebounds for Colo-NESCO in the loss. Ephram Muntz added four points and one assist, Kenny Cutler two points, three steals and one assist, Nolan Smith three steals and two points and Tanner Ingle two points and three blocks and rebounds apiece. 

Grundy Center improved to 15-5. Zach Opheim had 12 points, Brayden Sawyer 10 points and three assists and Dayne Zinkula nine points, six rebounds and three assists for the Spartans.
