C-N’s Henze makes all-ISC elite team
The Colo-NESCO softball team had five players given all-Iowa Star Conference recognition in 2018 after posting a winning conference record.
Senior catcher Chelsea Henze was named both all-ISC elite and to the South Division first team. Sophomore shortstop/pitcher Rylee Purvis and junior outfielder Faith Vincent were also chosen to the South Division first team.
Senior pitcher/shortstop Mackenna Ruffcorn made the second team and freshman outfielder McKenzie Niemeyer was named honorable mention in the South Division.
Henze hit .381 with seven doubles and 12 RBIs in ISC games. Behind the plate Henze only made one error in 107 chances and she threw out five base runners.
The other all-ISC elite picks were Collins-Maxwell’s Mikayla Houge, Alexis Houge, Katie Camp and Ella Kahler; Clarksville’s Cheyenne Behrends, Janet Borchardt and Kori Wedeking; Janesville’s Lily Liekweg and Kennedy Meister and Don Bosco’s Kindra Welter. Behrends, Borchardt and Wedeking were all unanimous choices.
Purvis posted a .409 batting average with four doubles, one triple, 15 runs and nine RBIs and she went 4-3 with a 4.17 earned-run average and 25 strikeouts against 13 walks in 45 ⅓ innings during ISC games. In the field Purvis made 58 assists and 15 putouts.
Vincent recorded a .429 batting average with two doubles, one triple and five RBIs against conference competition. In the field she had 32 putouts and just two errors with two assists.
Also making the South Division first team were Mikayla Houge, Alexis Houge, Camp, Kahler, Hannah Caple and Reagan Franzen from Collins-Maxwell and Baxter’s Jordynn Wesselink and Holly Jessen.
Ruffcorn recorded a 5-4 record with a 3.27 ERA, 32 strikeouts and 22 walks in 40 ⅔ innings against ISC teams and she also recorded 50 assists and 22 putouts in the field. At the plate Ruffcorn hit .357 with five doubles and 10 RBIs.
Ruffcorn was joined on the second team by Collins-Maxwell’s Brailyn Tankersley and Emma Kahler, CAL’s Tori Ciaramitaro, Baxter’s Kaitlynn Kelly, GMG’s Kelsey Vaverka and Madi Krull and North Tama’s Carissa Underwood and Rylee McLean.
Niemeyer delivered a .345 on-base percentage with three doubles, 14 runs and 12 walks against ISC teams. She made 36 putouts and one assist against five errors in the field.
