COLO - The Colo-Nesco football team was so dominant in its game with Tri-County to close out the regular season that the Royals even had time to check out the band at halftime Friday in Colo.

Colo-Nesco drilled Tri-County over and over in the first half. The Royals led by an incredible 56-0 margin after one quarter and by halftime their lead swelled to 70-0, en route to a 76-0 victory on senior night.

“We were up 70-0 (at half) and the coaches just couldn’t do anything at halftime,” Colo-Nesco senior Wayne Beard said of his team getting a little break at the half. “We deserved this. I just love my team — we did great.”

Beard scored two touchdowns within 1:34 in the explosive Royal first quarter. He had a 32-yard touchdown run and followed it up with a 28-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Garret Tiarks had a 31-yard touchdown run and touchdown passes of 35 yards to Parker Eley and 45 yards to Garrett Packer in the first quarter for Colo-Nesco. Tiarks also returned an interception seven yards for a score and Philip Bower picked off a pass and ran it back 70 yards for the Royals in the opening quarter.

Tiarks added touchdown runs of 40 and six yards in the second quarter for Colo-Nesco. He finished with 115 yards rushing and completed 2 of 4 passes for 80 yards.

After the game, Tiarks was awarded a game ball for surpassing 4,500 career all-purpose yards and 500 career points.

“It’s something I’ll cherish forever,” Tiarks said. “I’m honored and blessed to be able to do what I do and come out here and play with my team every night. That’s what I’m going to miss most — just playing with my team.”

Colo-Nesco completed the season at 5-4 overall and 5-2 in 8-man District 5.

“We lost like 11 seniors last year,” Tiarks said. “To come back and have the year we had against the teams we (faced), I thought we did really well.”

Packer had 45 yards and Eley 35 yards receiving for Colo-Nesco. Dakota Wier ran for 33 yards, Beard ended up with 32 yards rushing and Kelly Gray chipped in 45 yards on the ground for the Royals.
