Ausman leads Cub girls to victory in regional first round
STATE CENTER — The Nevada girls’ golf team is advancing to the regional second round after winning the Class 3A regional first round meet at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center Monday.
The Cubs shot a 378 over 18 holes to beat Grundy Center by 11 strokes for the victory. The win allows Nevada to golf on its home course - the Indian Creek Country Club - next Monday in the 3A regional second round.
Claire Ausman turned in an amazing individual performance for Nevada at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course. Ausman shot a 42 on the front nine and shaved off an impressive six strokes down the backstretch to card a strong score of 78 and earn medalist honors by a stunning 13 strokes.
Grundy Center’s Kate Ross was medalist runner-up with a 91.
Chloe Davis shot a 95 for Nevada with rounds of 49 and 46. She tied for fifth individually with Prairie City-Monroe’s Madeline Mitchell.
Center Point Urbana’s Natalea Cook and PCM’s Breanna Maher took third and fourth with respective scores of 92 and 93.
Savannah Kyle and Emma Griffin turned in the final two counted scores for Nevada. Kyle had rounds of 53 and 48 to card a 101 and Griffin shot a 104 with two rounds of 52.
Mekenlie Jones and Brittny Bottorf also competed for Nevada at the regional first round meet. They each shot a 110.
