Royal boys decimate competition at ISC meet

TAMA — The Colo-Nesco boys’ track team turned in a dominant performance and the Royal girls won four events at the Iowa Star Conference meet May 5 at Meskwaki High School in Tama.

The Royal boys scored 173 points to blow away the rest of the field at the ISC meet. Don Bosco was a distant second with 93 points.

The Colo-Nesco boys won nine events.

In field events Dacian Wilson won the discus and Christian Reischauer took first in the long jump. Wilson’s winning throw of of 123 feet even edged out the 122-1 toss by CAL’s Caleb Striegel, and Reischauer’s victorious jump of 20-8 easily beat the runner-up jump of 18-7.5 by Janesville’s Kevin Hahn.

On the track Reischauer won the open 400, the 400-meter low hurdles and helped Colo-Nesco win the shuttle hurdle relay.

Reischauer completed the 400 in 51.45 seconds to just edge out the :51.50 run by Janesville’s Danny Amile. In the 400 low hurdles, Reischauer clocked in at :58.51 to again hold off Amile, who finished in in :58.60.

Reischauer ran the third leg in the shuttle hurdle as Colo-Nesco ran a 1:01.79 to easily beat Janesville’s 1:04.34 for the victory. Caleb Vaughn and Brady Stoeffler ran the first two legs and Grant Tiarks was the anchor for Colo-Nesco in the race.

Stoeffler added an individual win in the 800. He also helped Colo-Nesco take first in the 4 X 800 and 4 X 400.

In the 800 Stoeffler clocked in at 2:07.49 to beat out the 2:08.20 run by Dunkerton’s Jordan Yessak for the gold. In the 4 X 800, he ran the second leg as Colo-Nesco clocked in at 8:33.12 to comfortably beat out Dunkerton’s runner-up time of 8:48.32.

Caleb Cobbs ran the opening leg, and Garret Tiarks and Steven Cutler ran the final two legs for Colo-Nesco in the 4 X 800.

In the 4 X 400, Stoeffler ran the third leg as Colo-Nesco clocked in at 3:40.93 to beat Tripoli’s 3:43.55 for first. Garret Tiarks and Tanner Clatt ran the first two legs and Cobbs was the anchor.

In the distance medley Christian Montgomery, Clatt, Garret Tiarks and Cobbs won with a time of 3:52.74. Don Bosco took second in 3:54.32.

Caleb Vaughn took second in the high jump after clearing 5-8, Wayne Beard ran a runner-up time of :11.85 in the 100 and Grant Tiarks was second in the 110 high hurdles with a time of :16.90. Montgomery, Clatt, Garrett Packer and Beard ran a runner-up time of 1:39.32 in the 4 X 200 and Montgomery, Clatt and Packer teamed with Grant Tiarks to take second in the 4 X 100 with a time of 47 seconds flat.

The Colo-Nesco girls picked up four gold and three silver medals, scoring 108 points to place second out of 12 teams at the ISC meet. Tripoli won the ISC girls’ title with 126 points.

Hallie Riese and Angela Brinkman each won an individual gold for Colo-Nesco. Riese won the 100 hurdles and Brinkman took first in the 400 hurdles.

In the 100 hurdles Riese clocked in at :17.62 to beat out Brinkman, who finished second in :17.86. Brinkman won the gold in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:10.68, holding off the 1:12.18 run by Tripoli’s Sadie Bobst for first in the event.

Brinkman and Riese teamed with Grace Stalzer and Faith Vincent to win the girls’ shuttle hurdle relay in 1:12.73. Clarksville was a distant second in 1:20.33.

Riese joined with Chelsea Henze, Vincent and Rylie Reischauer to win the 4 X 200 in 1:55.62. Janesville was runner-up in 1:56.87.

Lauren Riese was runner-up in the discus with a throw of 99-2. Riceville’s Abby Marr won with a throw of 107-11.

Reischauer came in second in the 200 with a time of :28.06. Meskwaki’s Grace Tahahwah won in :27.27.

Reischauer also took third in the 100 with a :13.82 showing. Alexis Britten won a bronze in the 3,000 with a time of 12:55.01 and Colo-Nesco’s sprint medley team of Hallie Riese, Henze, Reischauer and Vincent clocked in at 2:03.17 to place third.

The Colo-Nesco track teams next compete in the Class 1A state qualifying meet at Belle Plaine. The meet takes place today at 4 p.m.
