GRIMES — Nevada scored a big 1-0 nonconference win over Dallas Center-Grimes in a battle between two top-10 girls’ soccer programs May 7 in Grimes.

Abby Stephenson scored an unassisted goal to account for the only scoring in the game. Nevada, the No. 5 team in Class 1A, finished with seven shots on goal; Stephenson, Kati Cassabaum and Erin Sellberg recorded two apiece and Erin Francis added one.

On defense, Nevada completely shut down a strong DCG team that entered the game ranked No. 8 in 2A. Cub keeper Clara Sporrer made five stops to help the Cubs post their third shutout in a row and fourth of the season.

The victory put Nevada at 8-3 on the season. DCG fell to 7-4.
