Nevada girls place second at HOIC meet

BOONE — The Nevada girls’ golf team turned in a runner-up performance at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet May 4 at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.

Nevada shot a 426 over 18 holes to beat Gilbert by five strokes for second out of eight teams. Prairie City-Monroe won with a score of 415.

Claire Ausman set the pace for Nevada individually. Ausman was medalist runner-up with a 94 after shooting a 46 on the front nine and a 48 down the backstretch.

PCM’s Madeline Mitchell was the HOIC medalist. Mitchell shot a 90 with rounds of 48 and 42.

Chloe Davis turned in the second-best Nevada score with a 103. Davis shot a 56 on the front nine and shaved nine strokes off that score over the back nine.

Mekenlie Jones was third on the team with a 111. Jones shot a 59 on the front and a 52 on the back.

Brittny Bottorf and Savannah Kyle tied for the fourth and final counted score for Nevada as they each shot a 118. Bottorf carded rounds of 61 and 57 and Kyle put up rounds of 63 and 55.

Emma Griffin also competed for Nevada. Griffin shot a 121 with rounds of 62 and 59.
