Cub boys finish second at R-S
GRINNELL — The Nevada boys’ golf team tied for third at the Grinnell Invitational Monday at the Grinnell Country Club.
Nevada shot a 159 over nine holes to finish even with Oskaloosa in the team standings at a meet that was cut short due to weather. Grinnell won the meet with a score of 147 and Des Moines Christian took second with a 156.
“This was our first time playing in this event or at this course,” Nevada head coach Ryan Brown said. “Sometimes you can play your best golf when you see a course for the first time. Everybody responds differently to that kind of challenge. Obviously, the first half of our lineup responded better than our top half.”
Cam Shill stepped up to lead Nevada with a 37. Jack Higgins was second with a 40 and James Carsrud and Cole Gidel each shot a 41 to round out the counted scores for Nevada.
Braydon Otto shot a 43 and Jake DeVries finished with a 44 as the other Cub golfers competing at the meet.
Oskaloosa’s Spencer Tucker was the medalist at the meet after shooting a three-under par 32. Grinnell’s Lucas Scherf was medalist runner-up with a 33.

STORY CITY — Nevada took second at the Roland-Story Invitational May 5 at the River Bend Golf Course in Story City.
The Cubs shot a 159 over nine holes to come in behind Roland-Story’s winning score of 154. South Hamilton was third out of seven teams with a score of 168.
Nevada had two golfers shoot under 40 at the meet. Braydon Otto and Dylan Sporrer both carded a three-over par score of 39 to pace the Cubs.
Cameron Shill finished with a 40 and Jake DeVries a 41 as the other counted scores for Nevada. James Carsrud delivered a 45 and Jack Higgins shot a 48 to complete the varsity individual scoring for the Cubs.
Hampton-Dumont’s Derek Juhl shot a one-under par 35 to earn medalist honors. Roland-Story’s Will Halstead was medalist runner-up with a 37.
