JEFFERSON - It was no contest for No. 1 Nevada when the Cubs took on Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference play Dec. 10 at Jefferson.

The Cubs shot 57 percent and held the Rams to just 17 attempts from the field in a lopsided 67-15 victory.

Nevada shut out Greene County in the first quarter. By halftime, the Cubs held a 27-7 advantage.

The game was blown wide open in the third quarter as Nevada outscored Greene County, 24-3, to build a 41-point lead.

Kati Cassabaum dominated in the low post for the second game in a row for Nevada.

Cassabaum followed up a 23-point night at Saydel by scoring a season-high 28 points versus Greene County. She made 14 of 17 field goals and added three assists, three steals and two blocks.

Izzy Kapustka put up a season-best 12 points off the bench for Nevada. Kapustka was 5 of 6 from the field and 2 of 3 from 3-point range.

Ally Fey hit two 3-pointers and finished with eight points, four assists and three rebounds, and Lexy Koudelka and Claire Ausman chipped in six points apiece for the Cubs. Ausman also had four assists; Koudelka tallied six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block and Abby Stephenson came away with six assists and steals apiece.

The victory put Nevada at 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the HOIC. Greene County fell to 2-3 and 2-2 respectively.

Nicole Rohner had five points and four rebounds and Regan Lamoureux netted three points for Greene County versus Nevada.

SAYDEL - Dominance in the paint and great defense helped Nevada easily brush aside an off- shooting night from outside in a 54-20 road victory over Saydel Dec. 8.

Post players Kati Cassabaum and Lexy Koudelka combined for 33 points and they helped Nevada shoot just above 50 percent from inside the 3-point arc (21 of 40). The Cub defense held Saydel to just 23 attempts from the field and no trips to the foul line and Nevada also had 17 steals and outrebounded Saydel by a 25-18 margin.

The Cubs didn’t give up more than six points in a single quarter. They led 29-8 at the half and upped that advantage to 31 points after three quarters.

Cassabaum had 23 points after making 11 of 18 shots from the field. She also recorded four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Koudelka ended up with 10 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Abby Stephenson and Alli Fey each netted seven points for Nevada. Stephenson tacked on four assists and steals apiece and Fey finished with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Claire Ausman chipped in five points and three assists and Izzy Kapustka scored two points.

Katie Schmidt and Makenzie Pyles each scored four points for Saydel. Cassie Chubb tacked on two points, five rebounds, three assists and one block.
