COLO - Going up one class didn’t make a difference for the Colo-Nesco boys’ basketball team when the Royals took on non-conference rival West Marshall Saturday in Colo.

The Royals jumped all over the Trojans early in scoring their fifth blowout victory in as many tries by a 72-34 score.

Colo-Nesco, ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, had blasted four 1A schools by an average of 56 points entering Saturday’s game. The Royals continued that trend against West Marshall, scoring 17 of the game’s first 19 points to never let the Trojans get close in improving to 5-0 on the season.

“We had a big summer - I think this group played about 40 games against good, quality opponents - so they’re seasoned and you can tell watching them they play as one,” Colo-Nesco head coach Pat Wynja said. “It’s easy to coach and it’s fun to watch.”

The Royals shot 52 percent from the field against West Marshall, marking the fifth time in as many tries that they’ve topped the 50-percent accuracy mark this season. As a team Colo-Nesco totaled 20 assists, 17 steals and 13 offensive rebounds and the Royals limited West Marshall to 36 field-goal attempts.

The tremendous play of point guard Brady Stoeffler has been a big reason Colo-Nesco has been so stout thus far.

Stoeffler had 24 points, five assists and three steals against West Marshall. He made 9 of 14 field goals, including 4 of 6 3-pointers.

“Quite a bit was working tonight,” Stoeffler said. “Coach has always counted on me to be the catalyst of the offense and he’s letting us play quite a bit. It’s pretty fun, but we’re looking forward to playing better teams.”

With Stoeffler in command of the offense, Colo-Nesco showed great balance against West Marshall. Three different players scored in double figures and four individuals also recorded at least three assists.

Christian Reischauer hit 9 of 11 shots and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block for Colo-Nesco. Garret Tiarks tacked on 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals, Tanner Clatt had seven points, four assists and three steals and Grant Tiarks put up four points, seven rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks.

David Disney produced 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks for West Marshall as the Trojans fell to 0-7. Cole Baccam added eight points and Garrett Nichols put up five points, two assists and two steals for the Trojans.
