Three Cubs make all-district in football

Three members of the Nevada football team were given all-Class 3A District 6 recognition in 2015.

Sophomore linebacker Luke Fevold, sophomore receiver Brendan Sellberg and senior defensive back Lane Hillock were all chosen for their outstanding seasons for Nevada this fall.

Fevold made 39 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss and he had one sack, interception and fumble recovery apiece in 2015. He also made 19 of 20 extra points for Nevada on special teams.

Sellberg caught 18 passes for 446 yards and six touchdowns. He added 346 yards rushing on an average of 7.2 yards per carry and six touchdowns.

Hillock ended the season with 43 tackles. He also recovered one fumble.

The rest of the 3A District 6 all-district team comprised of: Ballard’s Sam Kruger, Kolby Jensen, Easton Moody, Cade Wilson, Seth Moore, Max Stoltz, Hunter Wright and Kobe Schulze; Grinnell’s Jake Simon, Scott Burnell, Derek Jones, Joe Rivera and Tanner Hoffstetter; Newton’s Bryce Tish, Joe Banfield, Dalton Nevels and Duncan Lee; Benton’s Lathan Cooper, Samuel Maresh, Hunter Semelroth, Riley Pfiffner, Blade Durbala and James Heilman; Bondurant-Farrar’s Casey Zarr, Jarrid Clark, Cole Schlenker, Dylon Storey, Payton Duit, Matt Eckert and Keller Paulsen and Gilbert’s Cody Dvorak, Zach Becker, Chris McGuire, Christian Harder, Ryan Blum, Eli Harris, Cole Drzycinski, Steven Lawrence and Jack Currans.

Dvorak was named Offensive MVP and Moody was picked as the Defensive MVP of the district. Benton’s Kal Goodchild was named Coach of the Year in the district.

Making all-district honorable mention from Nevada were seniors Bennett Thompson, Peyton Sharp and Chris Dobernecker and junior Macade Matuska.

Thompson caught five passes for 87 yards and one touchdown and he also delivered 39 tackles and one interception on defense. Sharp made 17 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns and he also ran for 162 yards and three scores.

Dobernecker tallied 31 tackles and four sacks on defense and he also anchored Nevada on the offensive line. Matuska completed 71 of 148 passes for 1,171 yards and 12 touchdowns and five interceptions in his first season at quarterback for Nevada.
