C-N girls stay unbeaten

RICEVILLE - The Colo-Nesco girls’ basketball team kept up its hot start to the season with a 46-38 road victory at Riceville Saturday.

Colo-Nesco used a strong rally to get past the Wildcats and improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Royals trailed 31-29 going into the fourth quarter. But they limited the Wildcats to seven points and stepped up their offense over the final eight minutes to claim victory.

Colo-Nesco prevailed despite shooting just 28 percent from the field, being outrebounded 42-36 and making only 4 of 19 3-pointers. The Royals held Riceville to 28-percent shooting, tallied 15 steals and kept the Wildcats without a 3-pointer.

Kassie Robinson had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals off the bench for Colo-Nesco. Molly Barten put up eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks; Mackenna Ruffcorn tallied seven points, six rebounds and three assists; Rachel Vincent produced seven points, four rebounds and two assists and Faith Vincent added five points and four steals for the Royals.

Grace Stalzer chipped in four points, six rebounds and one block and Chelsea Henze added five points and two assists for the Royals.

Lydia Beran netted a game-high 16 points and she also had eight rebounds for Riceville. Savannah Asfahl came through with 11 points for the Wildcats.

COLO - Colo-Nesco remained unbeaten in Iowa Star Conference play with a 46-29 home victory over Don Bosco Friday in Colo.

The Royals took charge with a big second quarter. They continued to outscore the Dons over the final two periods to improve to 3-0 in the ISC.

Colo-Nesco only scored three points in the first quarter, but by halftime they led 19-12. The Royals went up 35-23 after three quarters, then held Don Bosco to six points in the fourth quarter to sew up the victory.

Colo-Nesco had 33 rebounds, including 13 offensive rebounds in the win. The Royals also came away with 16 steals to overcome a 4 of 23 shooting night from 3-point range.

Faith Vincent had 15 points, four assists and three steals and Kassie Robinson put up 11 points, six rebounds and two steals in the victory. Mackenna Ruffcorn added seven points and four steals; Chelsea Henze had five points; Grace Stalzer delivered three points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block and Molly Barten chipped in three points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Rachel Vincent tacked on two points, four rebounds and two steals for Colo-Nesco.

COLO - An amazing fourth quarter helped Colo-Nesco claim victory from the jaws of defeat against GMG in its home opener Dec. 1 at Colo.

The Royals trailed by 10 points going into the fourth quarter, but then outscored the Wolverines 21-0 over the final eight minutes to earn an improbable 56-45 victory.

Colo-Nesco trailed 31-28 at the half. In the third quarter the Royals put up seven points to fall behind 45-35 and set up the stunning final quarter.

For the game Colo-Nesco had 21 steals and posted a huge 51-35 rebounding advantage and 87-41 edge in field-goal attempts. That enabled the Royals to overcome a 44 to 29-percent GMG edge in field-goal accuracy and a poor 3 of 15 shooting effort from the foul line.

Grace Stalzer and Molly Barten helped Colo-Nesco dominate inside. Stalzer had 12 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals and Barten ended up with 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Faith Vincent and Rachel Vincent added nine points apiece for Colo-Nesco. Faith tacked on six assists and four steals and Rachel contributed 10 rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Mackenna Ruffcorn came through with eight points and six steals and Kassie Robinson added six points, six rebounds and three steals for Colo-Nesco.

McKensie Vaske posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds for GMG in a losing effort. Mable Dieleman added 10 points and Blaire Sonderleiter delivered eight points and nine rebounds for the Wolverines.
