Royals’ Combes wins boys’ title at Madrid Invite

MADRID - The Colo-Nesco boys’ cross country team produced an individual champion and the Royal girls had two runners in the top 11 at the Madrid Invitational Sept. 3 in Madrid.

Running on a shortened 2-mile course, Colo-Nesco’s Jordan Combes took home the boys’ individual title with a time of 10 minutes, 34 seconds. Ogden’s Andrew Stumbo came in second with a time of 10:47.

Caleb Cobbs and Steven Cutler also finished in the top 10 for the Colo-Nesco. Cobbs was third behind Stumbo with a time of 10:50 and Cutler crossed the finish line in 11:05 to place sixth.

Cole Dulaney ran a 36th-place time of 13:07 and Elliot Morgan came in 47th at 13:32 as the other runners to earn points for Colo-Nesco. The Royal boys scored 86 points to place fourth out of seven teams behind Madrid (67 points), Des Moines Christian (68) and Ogden (71).

The Royal girls placed fourth out of four scored teams with 127 points. Panorama won with 41 points, Madrid took second with 80 and Ogden scored 122 points to place third.

Alexis Britten ran a 2-mile time of 14:34 to place ninth individually for Colo-Nesco. Faith Vincent was close behind with an 11th-place time of 15 minutes even.

Shelby Smith took 28th in 16:18, Grace Stalzer ran a 32nd-place time of 16:32 and Angela Brinkman came in 38th at 16:52 as the other scored runners for the Royal girls. Stephanie Norris just missed the scoring cut with a 39th-place time of 17:03.

Des Moines Christian’s Sydney Clark won the girls’ individual title with a time of 13:21. Panorama’s Brianna Hoffman and Devyn Kemble took second and third with respective times of 13:25 and 13:35.
