Downtown Halloween was a huge success – nearly 1,000 kids downtown filling buckets and bags with goodies from 43 businesses and organizations. A special thank-you to the businesses and organizations who were handing out the goodies: Allen Kockler Company, ALMACO, American Legion Auxiliary, Arends Sanitation, Ben Franklin, Carleton Family Medicine, Casey’s, Connect 2 Careers, Family of Faith, Farmers Insurance – The Kemp Agency, Gatherings, Gypsy Alley/Nevada Monument, Harmony Closet, Heart and Solutions, Indian Creek Country Club, ISU Extension – Story County, Krafty Contemporary, Main Street Dance Studios, Manpower, McFarland Eye Center and Clinic, Midwest Insurance Corporation, Nevada ABWA Bicentennial Chapter, Nevada Journal, Nevada Lions Club, Nevada Public Library, NuCara Pharmacy, Pedersen Insurance and Financial Services, RE/MAX Real Estate Concepts, Scott Richardson State Farm Agency, Sixth Street Salvage, State Bank and Trust, Story County Farm Bureau, StuffEnufForUs, Subway, Sweet Dreams Mattress Center, The Cutting Edge Salon, The Hair Studio, The Pink Fire Truck, The Talent Factory, US Bank, Windsor Manor and Youth and Shelter Services of Eastern Story County.

It wouldn’t be a community event without the Nevada Public Safety Department – thanks for bringing the police cars and fire equipment downtown – and to the Nevada Kiwanis for acting as crossing guards for the evening. Also thanks to the Nevada Streets Department for providing the barricades so we could close the streets and enjoy a safe event downtown.

Don’t miss tonight’s Fall Mix and Mingle at RE/MAX Real Estate Concepts, from 5 to 7 p.m. Stop by and visit with Marc and his staff and enjoy some refreshments and networking.

The ABWA Craft Show will be held on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13 at Gates Hall and the Nevada High School. The hours on Saturday will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Invitations have been mailed for Chamber/NEDC Annual Dinner on Thursday, November 17. The event will be held at Gatherings. There will be great speakers and delicious food, so plan to attend. The cost is $27 per person.

The Nevada Vintage Christmas event will be held on Friday, December 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Nevada. There will be a Cookie Walk and ISU Pop-Up Art Show at Gatherings from 5 to 8. Downtown businesses are invited to hold their holiday open houses that evening. A special visitor and his wife will arrive in Nevada at 5:45 on an antique fire truck. They will light the Christmas tree in front of State Bank and Trust at 6 p.m. The Nevada High School Choir will be caroling from 5 until 6:30 p.m. A live Nativity scene will be held downtown – the location will be announced. Plan to join your friends and neighbors at an old-fashioned Christmas on Friday, December 2.

Santa will also make a couple of extra stops in Nevada this year. He will be at Gatherings on Thursday, December 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 15, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
