Three weeks to go before Christmas Eve! Will you be ready? Have you been shopping locally? There are 18 businesses in Nevada participating in Shop Nevada First. They are: A Little Piece of Iowa (formerly The Urban Chicken), Ben Franklin, Big 8 Tyre, Carleton Family Medicine, Good and Quick, Great Western Bank, Gypsy Alley, McFarland Eye Center, Midwest Insurance Corporation, Nevada Hardware, Nevada Vision Clinic, NuCara Pharmacy, State Bank and Trust, Story County Medical Center, StuffEnufForUs, Sweet Dreams Mattress Center, The Talent Factory and U.S. Bank. Be sure and sign up when you visit any of these businesses. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Nevada Chamber Board meeting and winners will be contacted. There are four prizes - $100 in Chamber Bucks, $50 in Chamber Bucks, and 2 - $25 in Chamber Bucks.

WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF COOKIE BAKERS!!! The Annual Chamber Cookie Walk will be held on Friday, Dec. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. (or while supplies last) at Gates Hall. A cookie bucket (about one gallon) sells for $9 each. So, if you are a cookie baker and want to participate in the cookie walk contest, please contact the Chamber office. We are looking for donations of 10 dozen cookies. There will be a prize for the best decorated cookie — $50 in Chamber Bucks. We want a variety of decorated cookies for customers to fill their buckets. So dig out those old family recipes and WOW us with your creativity on Dec. 11 at the Cookie Walk.

The Downtown Winter Festival will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11. There will be a number of Holiday Open Houses; a Live Nativity at Gatherings, thanks to Family of Faith Church; Nevada High School carolers; and the jolly old elf himself will arrive in style at 5:45 to light the tree at State Bank & Trust. Of course, Mrs. Claus will be there, too, to make sure he doesn’t eat too many cookies! There will also be a POP Up art show at Gatherings with artists from Iowa State University! This is a brand-new event and we hope everyone takes some time to admire the talented artists’ work. The weekend wraps up with the Chamber Cookie Walk, Festival of Trees, Breakfast with Santa and the second Junior Theater presentation at Gates Hall on Saturday, Dec. 12.

It will be a busy month of December – especially the first couple of weeks. Besides everything above, there is a Master Grower Breakfast at Vetter Equipment on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 a.m. and a Holiday Mix and Mingle at Bacon Funeral Home that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Plan to spend your holidays in Nevada — shopping, dining out and just having fun!
