Watch: Iowa hospital staff share triumphs, struggles and lessons from a year of COVID-19
Doctors and nurses have received deserved praise as front-line heroes of the coronavirus pandemic. But few outside the ecosystem of a hospital can understand what they go through battling COVID-19, or, after nearly a year, just how exhausted they are. Or how helpless they feel when science still has so few answers for why one COVID-19 patient lives and another dies.
During a surge in the pandemic, Mary Greeley Medical Center opened its doors to the Des Moines Register, allowing us to tell stories of dedication, sacrifice, exhaustion, loss, pain and joy from inside the hospital.
The Register’s series, “Inside COVID-19’s Siege,” brings readers to the bedside as doctors, nurses and their patients battle this plague.
At noon on March 10, the Register will host an online conversation with some of the medical staff featured in the series, including Dr. Dan Fulton, Dr. Tamim Mahayni, nurse Julie Scebold and nurse Marjie Duysen.
We'll discuss the triumphs, struggles and lessons of the last year as well as answer questions from readers. Submit questions to co-host Courtney Crowder by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out the form below form.
