Story Theater Company will present its inaugural 10 Minute Play Festival on July 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. Come see the world premiere of six plays, written and directed by area teens, at the Story Theater Company black box theater, 615 South Dayton Ave., Suite 133, Ames. Advance tickets are $7 and can be purchased through the STC website ( ) through July 5. Tickets at the door, if available, will be $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and seniors.

The 10 Minute Play Festival is an exciting new venture for STC, which began with a call for submissions of original plays. The six playwrights whose work was chosen attended workshops to hone their writing. Then the process began to assign directors and hold auditions for actors. All actors, directors and writers for this festival are 14 to 18 years old. Ben Sulzberger and Lena Menefee-Cook, former STC actors, are festival co-directors. Sulzberger launched this ambitious idea, something more common in university theater departments.

Victoriah Nelson’s play is titled “A New Kind of Normal,” which is directed by Morgan Reetz. Zander Reed wrote “MFSTO - or “The Choice to Err” and has Joshua Gartin as director and Naomi White as assistant director. “Booked” is Carly Breen’s play, directed by Andrew Lindsay. Ben Siegel’s play is titled “Paper Swans,” and is directed by Franny Burke-Vens. “One Foot Out the Door” was written by Asher Suski and directed by Zander Reed. Finally, Morgan Reetz wrote “The Scarf,” with Ben Sulzberger as director.
