Story County Conservation briefs
You Can Now Reserve Your Campsite!
Beginning April 2, select campsites at Dakins Lake and Hickory Grove Park will be reservable through www.mycountyparks.com. This has been highly requested as it allows users to plan ahead for their camping trips.
Reservable sites will still be available on a first-come, first-served basis when not reserved, and there will still be some non-reservable sites at both campgrounds. Reservations can only be made for the upcoming camping season, which runs April 1 through Oct. 31, and must be made at least five days in advance of arrival.

Celebrate Earth Day with a Nature Hike
Looking for a way to celebrate Earth Day? Story County Conservation has two opportunities to get outside and in touch with nature on Sunday, April 22.
Spring Wildflower Hike: 2–4 p.m. Robison Wildlife Acres (29490 632nd Ave., Nevada)
Come and hike through Robison Wildlife Acres. The beautiful woodland wildflowers are some of the best of all of Story County Conservation’s areas. This is a moderate hike suitable for families with small children. Register by 9 a.m. on Friday, April 20.
Earth Day Hike: 1–3 p.m., McFarland Park (56461 180th St., Ames)
Hike the trails at McFarland Park with Story County Conservation Board Member Nancy Franz. Learn a bit about the ecosystems in the park as we hike, pick up litter and discuss how to improve and protect the Earth on this important day. Register by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.
Both hikes are weather-dependent and will be cancelled if conditions are not suitable. Specific details, age requirements and registration for each of these hikes are available at www.storycountyconservation.org or by calling our office at 515-232-2516 (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday).
