Iowa Collegiate Honor Band in concert in Nevada

Make plans now to attend the 23rd Annual Iowa Collegiate All-Star Honor Band Concert on Nov. 19, in the Josephine Tope Community Auditorium in Nevada.

The conductor of the 2016 Iowa Collegiate All-Star Honor Band is Dr. William Wakefield, director of bands at the University of Oklahoma. Wakefield is professor of music, director of bands and coordinator for the Ensembles and Applied Division at the University of Oklahoma School of Music, where his responsibilities include conducting the Wind Symphony and coordinating the doctoral and master’s wind conducting programs.

Wakefield, active as a guest conductor for all-state and region high school honor bands, intercollegiate and university ensembles throughout the United States and Canada, is the recipient of Phi Mu Alpha’s Orpheus Award for significant contributions to Music in America. He is also the recipient of the Blue Key Honor Society Teaching Excellence Award.

The Collegiate All-Star Concert Band was started 23 years ago by Professor Carol Ayres, Iowa Lakes Community College; Dr. Bill Carson, Coe College; and Dr. Henry Duitman, Dordt College. The Collegiate All-Star Concert Band will perform on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. The concert will take place in the Josephine Tope Community Auditorium, 1001 15th St., Nevada and is in conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators Association.
