Trans 101 Forum

A discussion about lesbian, bi-sexual, gay and transgender students will be held tonight (Nov. 17) at the Nevada High School auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. This is an informational forum to help “open hearts and open minds” to the LBGT students living in our community. There is no admission.

Supermarket of Veterans’ Benefits

This Friday, Nov. 18, all veterans in the surrounding areas are invited to a Story County Supermarket of Veterans Benefits event at the Ames Moose Lodge, 644 W. 190th St., Ames. This is a chance for veterans, whether they are from Story County or not, to learn about a variety of services that can be helpful to them. Representatives of a number of agencies will be on hand to talk about the county veterans affairs office, the Iowa Veterans Home and other VA centers, there will be veteran information presented by the Story County Treasurer and Assessor, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, E-Benefits and my Healthy Vet. Free haircuts will be available all day, as will coffee and donuts in the morning. A program at 9 a.m. will be a time for the representatives to tell a little bit about who they are and what they do, then the day will be open to people gathering information that they need. Fish Fry Friday

The American Legion in Nevada invites everyone to a Fish Fry this Friday, Nov. 18. An alternate choice will be meat loaf. Serving time is 5 - 7:30 p.m. Come enjoy a great meal while supporting our veterans and visiting with friends.
