Story County Medical Partners with Iowa Ortho to Offer Comprehensive Orthopedic Care

Scott Shumway, M.D., and Timothy Vinyard, M.D. of Iowa Ortho will soon be providing orthopedic care and surgery at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Both providers will begin seeing patients at Story Medical’s South Campus Nov. 1. Story Medical CEO Nate Thompson says the addition of the two specialists is a major enhancement to patient care and access to sub-specialized services for individuals and employers in Story County and the surrounding areas.

“Iowa Ortho physicians have a reputation for providing excellent care, and we are excited to bring Drs. Shumway and Vinyard to Story County,” Thompson says. “With their broad range of skills and experience in addressing work-related injuries and general orthopedic-related ailments, we are confident they will meet the needs of our primary service area, drawing clients from the outer reaches of our market. This partnership will expand our existing service line to offer an additional option for easily accessible, top-notch care closer to home.”

Dr. Shumway is a hand and upper extremity specialist who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with subspecialty certification in hand surgery. He completed fellowship training at Mayo Clinic and treats various injuries and conditions, including carpal tunnel, trigger finger, ganglion cysts, tendonitis and elbow instability. Dr. Shumway also sees sports-related and work injuries.

Dr. Vinyard is a shoulder, knee and sports-medicine specialist. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and received fellowship training at TRIA Orthopedic Center in Minn. Dr. Vinyard commonly treats shoulder injuries including rotator cuff tears, labral tears and shoulder instability and knee injuries including ACL and meniscal tears, multi-ligamentous knee injuries and cartilage injuries. He also sees patients for other sports-related injuries, as well as work injuries.
