COVID-19: 2 additional cases in Story County
Story County had two additional COVID-19 cases and no new deaths reported from 10 a.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Iowa’s coronavirus website.
As of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Story County has had 1,168 residents test positive for the virus, which is a rise of two cases from Monday morning’s total. To date, the county has had a total of 14 residents die as a result of the virus.
A total of 16,490 county residents have been tested for the virus, and of the 1,168 residents who have tested positive, 902 have recovered, according to state health officials.
COVID-19 is the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.
On Friday, the Iowa State University officials reported that a university program that administers coronavirus tests to returning students found that 66 students tested positive. That equates to roughly 2.2% of the 3,037 students that have moved into residence halls and campus apartments and taken tests.
As of Tuesday morning, Iowa State has not yet shared additional results from student testing since Friday’s release.
Last Thursday, the state’s coronavirus website introduced “county-by-county, 14-day-average positivity rates for school districts.” As of Tuesday, Story County was identified as having an average positivity rate of 2% over the last 14 days, according to Iowa’s coronavirus website, which is down from 3% last week.
Over the last 24 hours, no additional cases or recoveries have been reported at Accura Healthcare of Ames – the facility which was identified by the state as having an outbreak in early July. To date, a total of 54 positive cases have occurred at the facility, and of those have tested positive, a total of 37 individuals have recovered, according to Iowa’s coronavirus website.
Case updates across Iowa
In Iowa, another four residents have died as a result of COVID-19, and an additional 182 cases have been confirmed over the last 24 hours, the state reported at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. At the time, the state reported that 935 Iowans have died as a result of the virus.
A total of 49,182 Iowans have tested positive for COVID-19, according to reports from state health officials at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Of those who have tested positive for the virus, a total of 37,982 Iowans have recovered, according to the state.
Across Iowa, 525,823 residents have been tested for the virus.
