Ames Water Plant to open submissions to art contest Monday with theme 'Future of Water'
The annual Ames Water Plant Art Contest will accept submissions soon, with a chance to win cash prizes.
This year's theme is "The Future of Water."
“This art contest and exhibit is a way to showcase the vitally important role that water plays in our lives,” said John Dunn, Water and Pollution Control Director, according to a news release. “Having the art represent water in all of its many forms and functions highlights the purpose of the Water Treatment Plant, and also provides an enjoyable environment for anyone who comes to the building.”
Those who are selected will have their art on display at the Water Treatment Plant, 1800 E. 13th St., Oct. 17 through Nov. 4. Ames staff and the public will then be able to vote for the "Best in Show" and "People's Choice."
Voting will also be open to the public via the Ames Water and Pollution Control Facebook for the "Most Likeable" award.
The city will award $400 to the "Best in Show" winner, $200 to the "People's Choice" winner and $100 to the "Most Likable" winner. The pieces will all be considered for purchase by the city for its art collection.
Artists can enter up to three two-dimensional art pieces into the content. They must be submitted by 5 p.m. Sept. 9. Selected artists will be notified by Sept. 23.
