Ames' fall no-charge yard waste days have been set, giving people four opportunities to dispose of their yard waste for free.

The first No-Charge Yard Waste Day of the fall will be Oct. 30. Each year, the city offers no-charge yard waste once in the spring and four times in the fall. People can drop their waste at GreenRU, located at 400 Freel Drive, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

People can drop their yard waste for free at 400 Freel Drive Saturday.

The next dates are Nov. 13 (when brush will be accepted), Nov. 20 and Nov. 27 with the same location and hours.

Those unable to attend the Nov. 13 drop-off can pick up a single-use voucher in advance at the Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave. The voucher may be used Nov. 12 from noon to 5 p.m.

Precipitation may cause parts of the yard waste site to close, which could lead to longer wait times.

Participants are asked to enter the site from Dayton Avenue, then west on Southeast Fifth Street and north on Freel Drive. After dropping off the waste, drivers should exit north on Freel Drive to Lincoln Way.

People can pay to drop off their waste at GreenRU, noon to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Stoenhook Environmental, 3892 N 500th Ave., is also accepting waste from dawn till dusk every day for a charge.
