A fundraiser dinner will be held Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day) for Debra Johnson.

Johnson suffered a severe stroke at her Story City home last November, and spent seven weeks at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, before she was transferred to Story County Medical Center in Nevada for another three weeks of therapy.

The stroke affected her eyes, causing her to have double vision. Despite using glasses with prisms in the lenses, there has been no significant improvement in her eyesight.

Johnson, who had been employed by Soderstrum Funeral Homes in Story City, is now unable to work, and is facing many medical bills.

All proceeds of the dinner will go to her medical expenses. The dinner will be served at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The menu includes hot turkey sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, pie and beverage.

For those who cannot attend, donations may be sent to Bethany Lutheran Church, PO Box A, McCallsburg, Iowa 50154.
