The Nevada Chamber of Commerce invites you to attend the Downtown Winter Festival on Friday, Dec. 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Downtown businesses will be hosting open houses and offering extended shopping hours. The Nevada High School Chorus will be caroling along Sixth Street and Family of Faith Church will hold a live Nativity scene inside Gatherings, at 1024 Sixth St. Rolling Green/Indian Creek Independent Living will be handing out popcorn to downtown guests in front of the Chamber office. A very special guest, along with his wife, will arrive via fire truck at 5:45 p.m. to light the Christmas tree in front of State Bank and Trust. Plan to come downtown on Friday, Dec. 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

An Iowa State University Pop Up Art Show will also be held inside of Gatherings, from 5 to 7 p.m. This is an exhibition of artists in search of voice, simply searching for an overlap of media, intent and thrill. Visitors are invited to view the effort poured into the work of such an intrepid exercise. Also at the Pop Up Art Show will be the Moses painting, which is being brought out of storage by the Nevada Community Historical Society for public viewing during the art show. The Moses painting, given in honor of JoAnn Hunt’s grandmother, a teacher in Nevada, was previously hung in the Nevada Public Library.

After having fun downtown, head out to Gates Hall, where the Chamber annual Cookie Walk will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Cookies are $9 per bucket and there will be a wonderful selection to choose from. Gates Hall will also be holding the Festival of Trees viewing (5 to 7 p.m.) and the Junior Theater presentation at 7 p.m. (tickets are $3 and $2).

In addition to these Nevada Chamber and Parks and Rec events, the American Legion will be holding their monthly fish fry or meatloaf dinner, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and The Talent Factory Regulars will be holding their annual Christmas show at 8 p.m. This is a FREE show.

On Saturday morning, Dec. 12, Breakfast with Santa will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m., along with the Nevada Jaycees Toys for Tots collection, the Chamber Cookie Walk from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. (or while supplies last), the Festival of Trees from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and the Junior Theater Presentation at 11:30 a.m.

Plan to spend the weekend of Dec. 11 in Nevada! There is truly something for everyone!
