New mayor for McCallsburg if she accepts the job

The longtime reign of Wally Loney as mayor of McCallsburg is coming to an end. Loney, 91, has served the community for 27 years, but was not running in this year’s election.

The new McCallsburg mayor may be Jacki Meimann, the top write-in vote-getter. Meimann was notified about getting the most votes this week, after the official canvass Tuesday. Now, she can either accept or decline the position, which all who are elected by write-in have the ability to do.

Also being notified of their write-in wins will be Zearing residents, David Skinner and Trever Ewalt, who were the top write-in winners for open council seats there.

Only write-in candidates receiving at least 5 percent of the vote become part of the official election record, according to the auditor’s office.
