Can you believe that Christmas is less than three weeks away? Are you ready? Don’t forget our locally owned businesses when you are putting together your Christmas shopping lists. I am always pleasantly surprised when I find a treasure from someone’s wish list in one of the aisles of a Chamber business.

Don’t miss tonight’s Mix and Mingle at Bacon Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m! This was my first mix and mingle event last year, and it was so much fun. The food was delicious, and it was a wonderful chance to meet new people and catch up with old friends. Be sure and stop out tonight to kick off the holidays.

The 9th Annual Nevada Winterfest will begin next week on Friday, Dec. 13 and continue through Saturday, Dec. 14. The event will include the Chamber Cookie Walk, a tree festival, a junior theater presentation both Friday evening and Saturday morning, Breakfast with Santa, and a brand new event this year – a sleigh ride! Raymond Helmuth of Nevada will be bringing a team of horses to Gates Hall on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10 and give families a ride. We ask that you bring a bag of apples or carrots for the horses or make a cash donation to cover their feed costs. Bring your camera to document the fun! The Nevada Jaycees will also be collecting Toys for Tots on Saturday from 8:30 until 10 a.m. All these great family events will be held at Gates Hall, so plan to spend some time there next weekend.

January is typically a quiet (and cold) month but planning will continue for the Master Grower event in February, Midtown Market in June and Lincoln Highway Days in August.

It is going to be another busy, but fun, holiday season in Nevada! Watch the Nevada Journal for upcoming events and listen to KASI in Ames and KFJB/KIX 101.1 in Marshalltown for all upcoming events. Call the Chamber at 382-6538 or visit our website if you need more information.
