Huge, new Hy-Vee set to open next week in Grimes with gym showroom, other new departments
Hy-Vee's latest flagship location, opening next week in Grimes, will be the supermarket giant's third-largest store in Iowa and will offer a new look and several new departments.
The 92,989-square-foot store at 351 N.E. Gateway Drive is set to open Tuesday. Architecturally distinctive from other locations, the exterior includes brick and metal detailing.
Only locations in Cedar Falls and Urbandale are larger, and the new store will have features not commonly found at other Hy-Vee stores, including a W Nail Bar and DSW Shoes. The store also will have a pharmacy, Starbucks, Joe Fresh clothing shop, wine and spirits shop and a food hall.
In a first, the Grimes location will have an in-store fitness equipment showroom in partnership with Wisconsin-based Johnson Fitness & Wellness. Customers will be able to try out treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and other fitness equipment and place orders online via a kiosk.
“The new showroom experience is just one more way we can help our customers in their health and wellness journey," Randy Edeker, CEO and president of Hy-Vee, said in a statement.
Fitness equipment showrooms are expected to debut at additional Hy-Vee locations later this year.
The Grimes flagship store will be West Des Moines-based Hy-Vee's first in the city, one of Iowa's fastest-growing over the past decade. An accompanying Fast & Fresh convenience store will open at the south end of the parking lot.
An additional Fast & Fresh location also is planned for Grimes at 1401 E. First St. The opening date has yet to be announced.
