Seniors On Sixth
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are now looking forward to the celebration of Jesus’s birth at Christmas. There are many great community events and church programs to help us prepare.
December is always a busy time at the Senior Center. This week, on Monday, we had a “ladies day out” by going out to eat at Susie Q’s Goodies at the mall in Ames. Fourteen ladies enjoyed delicious homemade soup and a most wonderful array of sweets for dessert. On Thursday, the 5th, we served noon lunch to the Leadership Nevada class. They were holding their class at city hall, so it was a short walk for them to come over for a hot turkey sandwich and some scrumptious pumpkin dessert.
Next Monday, the 9th at 11:30, will be our December potluck with Barbara Howard, owner of the recently opened Queen Anne Bed and Breakfast, as our guest speaker. I’m sure she will get us even more excited about the Christmas Tour of Homes on the 15th. I know I am looking forward to visiting all four of the homes on this year’s tour.
Dec. 12 at 1:30 we will relax with a bowl of popcorn and watch a Christmas movie. I’m not sure which one yet because there are so many good ones to choose from.
At the end of December we will hold our second annual New Year’s Eve party at the Center. Many of you have asked if we are going to be open for a party again this year so we “old folks” can have a place to celebrate. Since early evening worked well for us last year we will again plan our party from 6-10 p.m. I hope you will put it on your calendars now and I will give you further details in the next couple weeks.
