COLO — The Colo-Nesco boys’ basketball team used a strong second half on defense to put away Iowa Christian Academy, 71-40, Feb. 18 in the opening round of Class 1A district play at Colo.

The Royals - ranked third in 1A, limited the Trailblazers to just 17 points over the final two quarters to pull away and improve their record to an impressive 21-1 mark on the season.

Colo-Nesco led 37-23 at the half. The Royals held the Trailblazers to just eight points in the third quarter, then outscored them 20-9 over the final eight minutes.

On offense Colo-Nesco shot 49 percent from the field. The Royals made 5 of 18 3-pointers and 8 of 11 free throws.

Colo-Nesco also totaled an impressive 16 offensive rebounds as a team. The Royals had 19 assists on 29 field goals and they ended up with 10 steals and four blocks.

Christian Reischauer and Brady Stoeffler both scored 19 points for Colo-Nesco in the win. Reischauer also pulled down nine rebounds and handed out three assists and Stoeffler dished out eight assists and came away with three steals.

Tanner Clatt tacked on 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for Colo-Nesco. Christian Montgomery delivered nine points, Grant Tarks tallied six points, eight rebounds and one block and Garret Tiarks came away with six points and six boards.
