COLO — The Colo-Nesco girls’ basketball team ended the regular season with a tough 42-37 non-conference victory over Roland-Story Saturday in Colo.

The Royals took an eight-point lead at the half and then held on to improve to 18-3. An 8 of 16 shooting performance from 3-point range and seven offensive rebounds helped Colo-Nesco end the regular season on a high note.

Grace Stalzer had nine points, 11 rebounds and six assists for Colo-Nesco on the night. Makaelyn Neuendorf put up eight points, Rachel Vincent netted seven points, Kassie Robinson had six points and Faith Vincent tallied five points and two assists.

Molly Barten contributed four points and six rebounds and Chelsea Henze added three points and two assists for Colo-Nesco.

JANESVILLE - Iowa Star Conference competition ended in dramatic fashion for Colo-Nesco as the Royals won a double-overtime thriller over Janesville, 57-56, Friday at Janesville.

Colo-Nesco rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to knock off the Wildcats and finish 15-1 in the ISC. Janesville dropped to 9-7 in the conference and 12-8 overall.

Janesville led 25-16 at the half after a big second quarter. Colo-Nesco cut a small chunk off the Wildcat lead after three quarters, then dominated the fourth quarter defensively to pull even and force overtime.

In the first overtime neither team could gain separation, as it ended with the score in a 52-52 deadlock. Defense dominated the second extra session, but Colo-Nesco did just enough to edge Janesville.

Neither team had a great night shooting. Colo-Nesco shot 31 percent from the field and Janesville did slightly better, making two more field goals than the Royals and converting 35-percent of its shots.

The Royals made two more 3-pointers than the Wildcats - four to two - and they converted three more free throws, going 13 of 23 from the line to Janesville’s 10 of 18 showing. Colo-Nesco also had a whopping 22 steals, which more than made up for a 43-40 rebounding deficit.

Makaelyn Neuendorf and Grace Stalzer carried most of the load for Colo-Nesco on offense.

Neuendorf netted 19 points and she also had eight rebounds, three steals and one block. Stalzer put up 16 points and she added nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Kassie Robinson contributed eight points, seven rebounds and four steals off the bench for Colo-Nesco. Faith Vincent delivered three points, eight rebounds, eight steals, five assists and one block and Molly Barten chipped in four points and five rebounds.

Tori Hazard scored a game-high 22 points for Janesville. She also had 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocks.

Payton Thompson tacked on 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats. Kennedy Meister added 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
