LATIMER — The Colo-Nesco girls’ basketball team had no trouble with CAL, posting a 68-25 victory over the Cadets Saturday in Latimer.

The Royals controlled the game from start to finish. They led by 11 after one quarter, 28 at the half and built a 62-18 lead after three quarters on their way to improving to 16-3 overall and 14-1 in the Iowa Star Conference.

The victory over CAL secured a fourth-consecutive ISC South Division championship for Colo-Nesco.

Mackenna Ruffcorn had 16 points and six rebounds, Makaelyn Neuendorf put up 11 points and two steals and Kassie Robinson chimed in with nine points for Colo-Nesco. Grace Stalzer continued her great all-around play with eight points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals; Faith Vincent tallied six points and seven assists and Chelsea Henze netted six points.

TRAER — Colo-Nesco gradually pulled away from North Tama for a 47-38 victory over the Redhawks Friday at Traer.

Colo-Nesco led 25-22 at the half. The Royals increased that edge to five points after three quarters, then closed things out by outscoring the Redhawks 13-9 over the final eight minutes.

Colo-Nesco prevailed despite making just two 3-pointers and giving North Tama 33 free-throw attempts. The Royals held the Redhawks to 33-percent shooting from the field and also posted a 31-22 rebounding advantage.

The Royals added 15 steals on defense.

Molly Barten had 12 points and one block and Grace Stalzer finished with nine points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists for Colo-Nesco in the win. Kassie Robinson tacked on eight points and three steals, Makaelyn Neuendorf put up seven points and five rebounds and Mackenna Ruffcorn delivered six points and three steals.

Faith Vincent didn’t score, but she contributed seven rebounds and five assists for Colo-Nesco.

Madison Howard led North Tama with 14 points and Abbie Schafer had six points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and three assists for the Redhawks.

CEDAR FALLS — Defense did the job for Colo-Nesco versus Valley Lutheran Jan. 26 in Cedar Falls as the the Royals held the Crusaders under five points in each quarter of a 50-15 victory.

Colo-Nesco led 28-8 at the half and 41-12 through three quarters. The Royals held the Crusaders to just 5 of 38 shooting from the field and they tallied 18 steals on the night.

Grace Stalzer had 13 points and eight rebounds and Kassie Robinson also scored 13 points for Colo-Nesco. Faith Vincent put up nine points, seven steals and five assists for the Royals.

Emma Armbrecht totaled six points, 12 rebounds and one block for Valley Lutheran. Abigail Krohn added six points and five rebounds for the Crusaders.
