NEVADA - A huge advantage in turnovers combined with strong shooting to give the Nevada girls’ basketball team a 56-27 victory over South Hardin Monday.


The Cubs forced 30 South Hardin turnovers and only committed 13. They also shot 46 percent from the field and held the Tigers to 9 of 38 shooting in evening up their season record at 1-1.


Nevada blew the game open in the first quarter. The Cubs lead by 20 points after the first eight minutes and by halftime they had an insurmountable 35-10 advantage.


Kacie Rewerts had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals and Addi Vorm handed out 10 assists and added five steals and rebounds apiece plus three points for the Cubs. Sydney Mosinski went for 10 points, four rebounds and one block and Eli Tuhn 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.


Amelea Jones, Maddie Dunham and Alexandria Arnaud each tacked on four points for Nevada. Jones also had four rebounds, Dunham two assists and Arnaud four assists.


Meredith Harter chipped in three points and Mayzi Weig scored one.

NEVADA - The third quarter wasn’t kind to Nevada in a 69-53 loss to Boone in its season opener Nov. 26.


Boone outscored Nevada 20-8 in the third after the score was tied at 31-31 at the half. The Cubs played better in the fourth quarter, but lost more ground to end up on the short end of the stick.


Nevada did a great job on the offensive glass, accumulating 16 of its 30 rebounds on the offensive end of the floor. But the Cubs only made 4 of 16 3-pointers and 11 of 23 free throws and they were hurt by foul trouble, finishing the night with 25 fouls.


Kacie Rewerts had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals and Addi Vorm and Elli Tuhn netted 10 points apiece for Nevada in the loss. Tuhn also pulled down nine rebounds to just miss a double-double.


Alex Arnaud tacked on nine points, four rebounds and two steals for the Cubs. Maddie Dunham had five points and two assists, Sydney Mosinski two points and four rebounds, Mayzi Weig two points and Amelea Jones three rebounds.
