STATE CENTER - The Colo-NESCO girls’ basketball team struggled after the first quarter in a 59-32 loss to West Marshall in its season opener Friday.


The Royals outscored the Trojans 11-10 over the first eight minutes. But West Marshall went up 26-19 at the half, increased its lead to 13 points after three quarters and blew the game open in the fourth.


Colo-NESCO only shot 30 percent from the field and was held to just 1 of 10 shooting from 3-point range. The Royals also had a tough time taking care of the ball as West Marshall tallied 24 steals.


Colo-NESCO did well on the glass, outrebounding West Marshall, 26-19. The Royals also came up with 13 steals on defense.


West Marshall shot 49 percent from the field and made seven 3-pointers.


Emma Stalzer had 12 points and one block and Lauryn Hill seven points, seven rebounds and five assists and steals apiece for Colo-NESCO. Rylee Purvis tacked on seven points and two steals, Gracie Kettwig four points and three rebounds and Jenna Banks two points.


Avril Sinning hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points and Karlyn Snider added 19 points to lead West Marshall.
