NEVADA - The Nevada volleyball team won the Nevada Invitational for the 10th time after upsetting a Dallas Center-Grimes team ranked 10th in Class 4A in the championship match Saturday.


The Cubs went 5-0 during the tournament to move to 21-8 on the season. Nevada swept Ballard (21-11, 21-12), Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (21-14, 21-13) and Iowa Falls-Alden (21-14, 23-21) in pool play then won a three-set battle with Norwalk in the semifinals before taking out DCG in straight sets.


Nevada dominated the first set in its match with Norwalk, winning by a 25-14 score. Norwalk came back with a 25-20 win in the second set, but Nevada regrouped to take the rally game by a 15-11 score.


The Cubs had 32 kills against 19 attack errors and an impressive 16 blocks against the Warriors. Nevada also went 56 of 60 serving with four aces.


Kacie Rewerts had 12 kills, seven digs and two blocks and Morgan Tupper 24 assists, four kills and two blocks against Norwalk. Hannah Thomsen added seven kills, five digs and three blocks; Sydney Mosinski six kills and four blocks, Lily Goos three kills and four blocks, Ellie Gray 12 digs and three aces and Maddie Dunham five digs.


The Cubs won their opening set over DCG by a 25-20 score. They then pulled off a 26-24 squeaker in the second set to wrap up the match and end the Fillies’ two-year run as the tournament champion.


Nevada was fantastic offensively against DCG. The Cubs recorded 35 kills and only seven attack errors.


The Cubs also had a strong serving match versus the Fillies. They went 47 of 50 with six aces.


Tupper delivered 30 assists, nine digs and two kills, Rewerts put up 12 kills and digs apiece and Thomsen recorded 10 kills and one block and ace apiece against DCG. Mosinski finished with seven kills and three blocks, Katelyn Kingsbury four kills, Gray seven digs and an ace, Erin Coogler five digs, Dunham three digs and Aubrey Gibson two aces.


For the tournament Tupper ended up with 108 assists, 24 digs, 12 kills and seven blocks and Rewerts had 53 kills against just 14 attack errors along with 40 digs, five aces and four blocks. Thomsen delivered 32 kills and five blocks, Mosinski 23 kills and 12 blocks, Gray 31 digs and six aces, Dunham 13 digs, Coogler 12 digs, Kingsbury 15 kills and Gibson three aces.


NEVADA - Nevada remained perfect in Heart of Iowa Conference play with a sweep over South Hamilton Sept. 26.


The Cubs pulled off a competitive 25-21 victory in the opening set. They cruised to lopsided 25-9 and 25-8 wins over the next two, completing the sweep and improving to 3-0 in the HOIC and 16-8 overall.


Nevada had 44 kills and only 11 errors in 89 attacks. Kacie Rewerts was a monster at the net, finishing with 24 kills and only two errors and adding 10 digs, two aces and one block.


Sydney Mosinski added nine kills, Hannah Thomsen seven kills and one dig, Katelyn Kingsburgy two kills and three digs and Lily Goos one kill and block apiece.


Morgan Tupper handed out 38 assists and she also had seven digs and one kill. Shelbi Hazlitt picked up one block, Ellie Gray had eight digs and one assist, Erin Coogler five digs and one ace, Aubrey Gibson five aces and three digs and Madison McGaffin one assist.
