GRUNDY CENTER - This time Colo-NESCO gave a much better effort against Grundy Center, but it wasn’t enough to advance the Royals in Class 1A district play Saturday.
Colo-NESCO suffered a 3-0 loss to Grundy Center in the district quarterfinals four days after a 13-3 loss to the Wolverines. Outstanding pitching from Brighton Clatt and a quality defensive effort kept the Royals in the game Saturday, but they could only come up with one hit offensively.
All three Grundy Center runs were unearned. The Wolverines scored twice in the fourth inning and once in the fifth.
Clatt gave up six hits. He struck out two and didn’t issue a single walk in seven innings.
Colo-NESCO’s only hit came courtesy of a single by Jack McKinney.
