CARLISLE - The Nevada baseball team had a tough time getting Carlisle out in a 15-3 non-conference loss to the Wildcats in five innings June 20.

Carlisle put up at least three runs in all four innings it went up to bat. Nevada was only able to counter with a run in the second and two in the third, falling to 3-13 on the season.

Dylan Sporrer and Connor Hines both singled and scored and Ryne Isleb walked and scored for Nevada. Cael Franzen was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Grant Higgins drove in a run.

Max Hoffman was the losing pitcher, giving up four earned runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in one inning. James Carsrud allowed six earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks in three innings of work.

Spencer Crees got the win for Carlisle, surrendering two earned runs with two strikeouts and walks apiece and lasting all five innings. Nile Foss doubled twice and had two runs and three RBIs for the Wildcats offensively.

ALLEMAN - Nevada came up short to North Polk, 8-3, in the completion of a suspended game June 19 at Alleman.

The game was the continuation of the second game of a doubleheader on June 3 that was suspended due to rain. North Polk also won the first game, 9-1.

Nevada scored all three of its runs in the second game in the fourth inning. North Polk plated five runs in the fourth and also had a run in the first and two in the sixth.

Dylan Sporrer took the loss for Nevada, giving up two earned runs in three innings. Jordan Barrett threw the final four innings when play resumed, allowing five earned runs on six hits and seven walks with three strikeouts.

Connor Hines singled and drove in two runs and Thomas Crawford singled and scored to account for Nevada’s only hits. Brock Dutton walked and scored and Ross Uthe also crossed the plate once.

The loss put Nevada at 2-9 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.

STATE CENTER - Great pitching wasn’t enough for Nevada in a 2-0 loss to West Marshall June 18.

Brock Dutton threw six outstanding innings for Nevada in a losing effort. Dutton gave up two unearned runs on three hits and only one walk, and he struck out three.

West Marshall scored both of its runs in the fourth inning.

Nevada only had four hits off West Marshall’s Gabe Jones. Thomas Crawford was 2-for-2 with a walk and a steal and Grant Higgins and Ross Uthe both singled once.

Jones struck out seven and walked one to get the win. Kinnick Christensen went 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI to pace the Trojans at the plate.

NEVADA - Masterful pitching from Dylan Sporrer helped Nevada earn its first victory at the new Nevada Cubs Baseball Field June 17 with a 1-0 victory over South Hamilton.

Sporrer tossed a four-hit shutout. He struck out four and only walked one batter to help the Cubs pick up their second Heart of Iowa Conference victory and upset a team that only had three previous losses.

Nevada gave Sporrer the only offensive support he needed with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ross Uthe was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Carter Franzen scored the Cub run.

Keaton Fry walked and singled, James Carsrud singled and stole a base and Brock Dutton walked and picked up a steal for the Cubs on offense.

Zeke Balderas struck out 12 and walked only two batters in a strong showing on the mound for South Hamilton in defeat. Brock Galetich went 2-for-3, Cole Berg doubled and Balderas singled for the Hawks on offense.
