Top-10 efforts by Colo-NESCO’s Lauryn Hill in the girls’ high jump and Nevada’s Joven Nelson in the boys’ 400-meter hurdles highlighted area athlete performances at the Drake Relays held last week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.


Hill placed seventh in the girls’ high jump with a jump of five feet, four inches. Keokuk’s Miracle Ailes won the event with a 5-8 effort.


Nelson completed the boys’ 400 hurdles in :55.02 to place ninth. Davenport Central’s Will Reemtsma won in :53.60.


Nelson also helped the Nevada boys’ 4 X 200 relay team take 16th with a 1:31.05 showing. Caeden DaSilva, Sam Abraham and Jakob Strottman ran the first three legs for the Cubs.


The Nevada boys’ 4 X 100 team of DaSilva, Dylan Jensen, Strottman and Nelson finished 17th in the prelims with a :44.24 showing.


The Nevada girls’ 4 X 100 team ran a :52.02 in the prelims to place 45th. Samara Sharp, Caitlyn Sharp, Emily Plate and Hannah Thomsen were the four Cub runners in the race.


Kacie Rewerts also competed in the girls’ 3,000 for Nevada. She placed 21st in 11:28.27.
