POLK CITY - The Nevada boys’ golf team won the Sunset Open triangular meet with plenty of room to spare at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City April 2.


The Cub boys shot a 154 over nine holes to win the meet by 22 strokes. North Polk took second with a 176 and Ogden shot a 177.


Tyler Sansgaard was the meet medalist for Nevada. Sansgaard carded a 35 to beat North Polk’s Ty Frangenberg by three strokes for first individually.


Dylan Sporrer shot a 39 to just miss medalist runner-up for Nevada. Kyle Linder, Harold Dobernecker and James Carsrud finished in a three-way tie for the final two scoring spots for the Cubs after they each scored a 40.


“Four under forty — that is always a team goal,” Nevada head boys’ golf coach Ryan Brown said. “When you can pack in four scores under 40, you will always have a competitive chance at winning any meet. Good early season round.”


Caden Jones also competed for the Nevada varsity. He shot a 45.


Final team scores (nine holes): 1. Nevada 154, 2. North Polk 176, 3. Ogden 177.
