STORY CITY — Colo-NESCO just couldn’t find its stride on offense against Roland-Story in a battle of ranked teams Saturday in Story City.


The Royals, ranked No. 7 in Class 1A, only shot 24 percent from the field and forced just three turnovers in a 43-26 loss to the No. 10 team in 3A.


Roland-Story led 27-13 at the half. The Norse put the game away in the third quarter by outscoring Colo-NESCO by 10 in the period.


Gracie Kettwig had eight points and three rebounds, Faith Vincent eight points and two boards and Rylee Purvis six points and eight rebounds for Colo-NESCO. Lauryn Hill tacked on two points and seven boards; Megan Carlson two points, three rebounds and two assists; Emma Stalzer and Emmy Hostetler four rebounds apiece and McKenzie Niemeyer two boards.


The loss put Colo-NESCO at 16-3. Roland-Story improved to 14-5.


Reagan Barkema had a big night by hitting five 3-pointers and recording 21 points, 12 rebounds and two steals for Roland-Story. Juliann Clark added five points, six rebounds and three assists; Kylie Tjernagel five points and three assists and MaKayla Geise five rebounds and two blocks.

COLO — Colo-NESCO couldn’t keep up with AGWSR on the glass in a 51-33 loss to the Cougars Friday at Colo.


The Royals, ranked No. 7 in Class 1A, were more than doubled up on the boards. AGWSR, ranked 14th, posted a 41-19 rebounding advantage to snap Colo-NESCO’s 12-game winning streak.


AGWSR led 29-18 at the half. Colo-NESCO did better in the second half, but still couldn’t find any rhythm on offense, falling to 16-2 on the season.


The Royals had seven steals on defense. They made four 3-pointers offensively.


The Cougars shot 44 percent from the field. AGWSR was also 5 of 11 from the line.


Faith Vincent had 10 points and three assists, Emma Stalzer eight points and two rebounds and Rylee Purvis six points and five boards for Colo-NESCO. Lauryn Hill chipped in five points and two assists and Emmy Hostetler three points, four rebounds and two steals.


AGWSR improved to 11-6. Alyssa Hames went for 25 points, 12 rebounds and three steals and Rachel Sicard 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks for the Cougars.

COLO — Colo-NESCO passed a big test against a quality Class 1A opponent with a 52-38 victory over Martensdale-St. Marys Jan. 31 at Colo.


Martensdale-St. Marys entered the game with only one loss. But the Royals, ranked No. 7 in 1A, started strong and maintained the advantage throughout, improving to 16-1 on the season.


Colo-NESCO led by seven after one quarter and 26-18 at the half. The Royals went up by 10 through three quarters, then outscored the Blue Devils, 15-11, over the final eight minutes.


Outside shooting was a difference maker in the game. Colo-NESCO was 9 of 22 from long range and Martensdale-St. Marys only converted 2 of 14 shots from behind the arc.


Faith Vincent had 13 points and three assists and Lauryn Hill 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead a balanced Colo-NESCO attack. Rylee Purvis tacked on six points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block; Gracie Kettwig eight points; Emmy Hostetler six points, five rebounds and a block and Emma Stalzer four points and rebounds apiece.


Megan Carlson finished with three points and two assists and McKenzie Niemeyer two points, as all eight Royals who played scored.


Martensdale-St. Marys fell to 13-2 with the loss. Jensen Archibald had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists; Maddy Stott nine points and six assists and Sophia Gibson four points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils.
