COLO — The Colo-NESCO boys’ basketball team had a rough first half in a 75-38 loss to North Tama Friday at Colo.


The Royals were outscored 45-15 over the first two quarters, dropping to 0-2 both overall and in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.


Brighton Clatt nailed three 3-pointers and totaled 13 points and Francis Bower added 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks for the Royals. Kelly Gray tacked on nine points and two steals and Tanner Ingle pulled down nine rebounds and scored two points.


Cael Even had 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for North Tama.

MAXWELL — Colo-NESCO struggled late in a 47-35 season-opening loss to Collins-Maxwell Nov. 27 at Maxwell.


The Royals played the Spartans dead even through three quarters. The game was knotted up at 30-30 going into the fourth.


But Colo-NESCO went cold offensively down the stretch. Collins-Maxwell also began to heat up at the same time, putting up 17 points in the final quarter to pull away.


Colo-NESCO shot just 13 of 46 from the field. The Royals had nine steals on defense, but they were outrebounded, 38-30.


Kelly Gray led Colo-NESCO with 14 points and four assists and steals apiece. Francis Bower tacked on 10 points and eight rebounds; Brighton Clatt eight points, six boards and two steals and Tanner Ingle three points, 10 rebounds and two steals.


Brett Livesay had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Mason Markley drained four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for Collins-Maxwell. Nathan Leonard added three points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks and John Kasper chipped in seven points, four assists and two steals.
