COLO — A dominant start helped the Colo-NESCO girls’ basketball team give North Tama a 60-29 thrashing Friday at Colo.


The Royals, ranked 10th in Class 1A, overwhelmed the Redhawks in the opening eight minutes. Colo-NESCO outscored North Tama 21-5 in the opening period, and by the end of three quarters, the advantage swelled to 31 points.


The victory put the Royals at 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division. Colo-NESCO pulled down 42 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards, and also had 21 steals in the win.


Faith Vincent nearly produced a triple-double for Colo-NESCO. She finished with 15 points, 10 steals, eight assists and five rebounds.


Lauryn Hill also had a great all-around game at guard. Hill tallied 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds and steals apiece and two blocks.


Emma Stalzer tacked on 10 points and six rebounds. Rylee Purvis chipped in nine points, three steals and two assists.

MAXWELL — Colo-NESCO took advantage of several Collins-Maxwell mistakes to cruise to a 67-44 victory over the Spartans Nov. 27 at Maxwell.


The Royals compiled an amazing 24 steals to counter their own turnover issues and create several good looks. Colo-NESCO shot 47 percent from the field and held Collins-Maxwell to 35-percent shooting, improving to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.


Faith Vincent led the charge for Colo-NESCO with 28 points. Vincent made five 3-pointers and 9 of 10 free throws, and also had seven steals and six assists.


Emma Stalzer added 12 points, five rebounds and a block in the low post for the Royals. Lauryn Hill had nine points, five steals and three assists and Rylee Purvis eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.


Collins-Maxwell fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Mikayla Houge delivered 17 points; Reagan Franzen nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks and Mikayla Markley eight points and seven rebounds for the Spartans.
