GRIMES — The Nevada wrestling team had one wrestler pick up two victories at the Mustang Invitational Saturday in Grimes.
Jacob MacVey finished 2-2, placing sixth at 220 pounds for the Cubs. Nevada sent a small contingent to the tournament, only having four wrestlers compete on the day and placing last out of 14 teams with 11 points.
MacVey opened the tournament with a loss by fall to I-35’s Brock Thompson. After receiving a bye in the consolation first round, MacVey pinned Webster City’s Hunter Collicott in two minutes, 29 seconds during the consolation second round.
In the consolation semifinals, MacVey carried over the momentum from his win over Collicott by sticking Carroll’s Nathan Reiling in 1:22. That put MacVey in the fifth-place match, where he lost by fall to Ankeny Centennial’s Jayden Cooper.
Nate Dumbaugh also placed for Nevada, taking eighth at 113.
Ankeny Centennial, ranked No. 9 in Class 3A according to The Predicament, won the team championship with 234 points. Dallas Center-Grimes took second with a score of 170.5.

NEVADA - Nevada wasn’t able to overcome a lack of depth in a 54-30 dual loss to Knoxville in its season opener Nov. 27 at the Nevada High School Field House.
The Cubs had to forfeit six matches and they only picked up one victory by forfeit. On the mat, Nevada outscored Knoxville, 24-20.
Holden Fry (220 pounds), Camdan Vincent (285), Dominick Garcia (120) and Noah Nusbaum (138) each scored a fall for Nevada during the dual. Fry took down Knoxville’s Milo Johnston in three minutes, 12 seconds; Vincent whipped Zack Elliott in 5:49, Garcia stuck Branden Lee in 1:38 and Nusbaum pinned the Panthers’ Sean Collins in 54 seconds.
Nate Dumbaugh received a forfeit at 106 for Nevada.
