Sophomore Mason Fort fired a no-hitter in the second game and assured Burlington High School's baseball team a Mississippi Athletic Conference sweep, 8-4 and 2-0, over the Muskies at Muscatine Thursday night.

Fort (1-0) had a perfect game going for six and one third innings, then walked two consecutive batters in the seventh. He got the next two batters out to preserve the no-hit shutout. He struck out 12 Muskies.

Drake Parks singled, doubled and drove in a run in the nightcap for the Grayhounds. Blaise Rosson had the other RBI.

In the first game, the Grayhounds jumped out to an 8-0 lead through three and a half inning. Rosson, Mason Leinbach, Parks and Cody Parrish each had two hits for Burlington. Leinbach doubled and three RBIs. Ethan Zaiser (2-1) was the winning pitcher.

Burlington improved to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the MAC. Muscatine slipped to 2-9 (2-4).

The Grayhounds host Davenport North and Davis County Saturday in the Breiholz Tournament.

BURLINGTON 5-5, MUSCATINE 4-6: The Grayhounds suffered their first loss of the season in the second game, when Muscatine’s Catie Cole hit three home runs and drove in five runs.

BHS (17-1 overall, 7-1 Mississippi Athletic Conference) won the first game on Emily Bloomer’s three-run double in the top of the seventh inning.

The last four Panthers in the lineup combined for eight hits in 12 at bats, a double, triple and seven RBIs. Erika Coleman led all hitters with a 3-for-3 outing, winning pitcher Cari Duwa and Cate Roth each had two hits and Remi Duwa singled. Pekin leadoff hitter Zoey Wright also had two hits.

Cari Duwa and reliever Remi Duwa limited Mediapolis to two hits — singles by Elise Wagenbach and Nova Petty.

Mediapolis (0-9, 0-7 North) plays West Burlington-Notre Dame at West Burlington today. Pekin improved to 7-6 (4-4).

NEW LONDON 6, WEST BURLINGTON 5: Shae Summerfield's RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Tigers to victory over West Burlington at New London.

Isaac McSorley and Britt Noel each had two hits for New London. Tyler Dameron, Daniel Crooks and Taylor Martin had two hits apiece for West Burlington. Sam Loyd was the winning pitcher; Gabe Zurita took the loss.

West Burlington led 5-1 after four and a half innings, but the Tigers scored three in the fifth and tied the game with a run in the seventh, forcing the extra inning.
