Martha Nell Deyoe

Martha Deyoe (87) passed away at Story County Medical Center in Nevada on Sunday, January 9, 2022, from pneumonia.

Martha Nell Young was born on May 20,1934 to Roger and Nell Young in Emporia, Kansas. Soon after her birth, her mother Nell passed away and she was adopted by Nell's sister Kathryn and her husband John Dow of Burdett, Kansas.

Martha spent most of her childhood living in western Kansas, with a short stint in California. After high school graduation in Burdett, she became a registered nurse and received a BS degree from Kansas State University. She married Bill Deyoe in August of 1958 and after his graduation from veterinary school in 1961, they moved to Ames, Iowa. Eventually, they settled in the Nevada area where they raised their children and Martha was active in various historical societies, the local DAR chapter, Genealogical Society, and a volunteer for the library.

Martha's passion for reading and family history led her to publish the Deyoe family history: "Ancestors and Descendants of James P Deyoe", a 345-page hardback volume full of photographs and information about generations of the Deyoe family. She also enjoyed collecting stamps and coins.

Martha loved visiting with family and friends and lived her life with a positive attitude. She always had time to stop and talk, even if you were someone that she did not know well.

In November of 2014, her life would change immeasurably when she had a severe stroke. It would take a toll on her mobility, and she would not walk again. She became a resident of Rolling Green Village in Nevada and would live there for 7 years.

On January 9, 2022, she left this earth to join the love of her life and husband, Bill, who had passed away almost exactly 5 years previous. She was also preceded in death by her parents Roger and Nell Young, her adoptive parents, John and Kathryn Dow, and daughter-in-law, Deborah Deyoe.

She leaves behind her four children and their partners and spouses, David Deyoe (Kay Fast) of Nevada, Iowa, Susan Deyoe (Jeff Lebegue) of Talkeetna, Alaska, Janet Chegireddy (Chandra) of Duluth, Georgia and Debra Martenson (John) of Gilman, Iowa; her grandchildren, Dana Deyoe (Jason Ryan), Alex Deyoe (Katie), Marisa Chegireddy and Amber Martenson; as well as one great grandchild, Rylee Ann Deyoe.

A private family burial service will be held at a later date.

Cards can be sent c/o Dave Deyoe, 66272 220th Street, Nevada, Iowa 50201.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Public Library or the Iowa Genealogical Society.

Arrangements are being handled by Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory in Nevada. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rasmussofh.com
