James M. Lyman II

Ames - James M. Lyman II, 86, of Ames, died at 8:10 p.m. December 20, 2021 at Unity Point Health Marshalltown Hospital.

Jim was born November 8, 1935 in Wapello County to James M. and Margaret L. Bearicks Lyman. He married Bonnie Bunnell Hamilton on June 18, 1966.

Jim was a graduate of Central High School in Sioux City and attended Iowa State University. He worked his entire career for the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 2000.

Jim had a extensive collection of science fiction books. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and country western music and especially enjoyed attending Lyman family reunions.

Surviving is his wife, Bonnie; their children, Matthew Hamilton of Montezuma, Terry Lyman Hamilton of Memphis, TN, Mary Ann (Darwyn) Pals of Cedar Falls and Michael (Sally) Hamilton of Spirit Lake; 7 grandchildren, Harry Hamilton, Allison Hamilton, Leah (Tim) Tranberg, Sarah (Jordan) Scales, Bethany Pals, Lindsey Hamilton and Katie Hamilton; 4 great-grandchildren, Anna and Drew Scales, Allison and Abigail Tranberg; a brother, Steve (Debora) Lyman of Sioux City; a sister, Suzanne (Jerry) Chicoine of Okoboji and brother-in-law, Danny (Vicki) Bunnell.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Lyman; his father and step-mother, James and Quindola "Wiggs" Lyman; grandparents who helped raise him, Ted and Lola Lyman; and grandparents Charles and Bess Bearicks.

Visitation will be 12 noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 28th at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present to greet friends.

Graveside service and burial will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 28th at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Memorials may be made to Hope Ministries.
