Elmer Lin Mitchell, 78, of Nevada died on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada with Pastor Larry Davis officiating.

Elmer was born on July 7, 1935 in Howard County, IA to Everett L. and Euphamie (Frank) Mitchell. On August 28, 1957, he was married to Marian Couser in Fernald. Elmer retired in April of 1998 after being employed for 28 years by the Story County Road Department. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Ames. Elmer enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing and woodworking.

Elmer is survived by his wife Marian Mitchell of Nevada; a son Jerry L. (Lynne) Mitchell of Nevada; a daughter Linda (Michael) Adams of Maxwell; three grandchildren Tori (Bryan) Carsrud, Tonda Huckvale, and Charlie Adams; five great-grandchildren Grant and Jacob Huckvale, Tempy, Rizzy, and Leo Carsrud; a sister Evelyn Jacobson of Ames; four brothers Harold (Vi) Mitchell, Clarence (Virginia) Mitchell, Frank (Nora) Mitchell, and Chester (Robin) Mitchell, all of Nevada.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Mitchell, sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Walter Whitehead, and brother-in-law Virgil Jacobson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Elmer for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Elmer and his family.
